Support IPA: Help Us Meet Our $50,000 Challenge Grant We are excited to announce that a donor has offered the Institute for Public Accuracy a $50,000 challenge grant. Now is the time for you to support IPA: every dollar you donate to help us meet our challenge grant will have twice as much impact at a time when we need it most. Dollar for dollar, no group does more to move independent voices into the media. IPA increases the reach and capacity of progressive leaders and organizations to impact public policy by gaining media access for those whose voices are commonly excluded or drowned out by government or corporate-backed institutions. As a national consortium of independent public-policy researchers, analysts and activists, IPA is uniquely positioned to promote credible voices to set forth just and peaceful policy options. Here is just one example of the way IPA helps lesser-known experts increase their exposure: In March of 2009 after AIG's decision to pay out $165 million in additional bonuses to their executives, we issued a news release featuring former government regulator William Black who laid out a strategy for preventing the bonuses. Following our news release, Black was featured in traditional outlets such as USA Today and Barron's as well as in progressive media such as the Huffington Post and PBS' "Bill Moyers Journal." As the debate continued, Black emerged as a key analyst on economic matters going beyond AIG bonuses on netroots forums such as the Daily Kos and Firedoglake. More recently Black was asked to write four pieces for the New York Times' "Room for Debate" column. Fellow economist James Galbraith has said: "IPA is exceptionally effective. Once they put your name on a release, expect to be inundated by press calls. It's exhilarating, though not always easy work." In order to continue our work, we need to meet this challenge grant -- and we can't do it without your help.
