DENIS HALLIDAY
Former head of the UN oil-for-food program, Halliday warns of “the catastrophic humanitarian impact of war and the imminent collapse of the oil-for-food program.” Halliday, who was also former U.N. Assistant Secretary General, said today: “The Secretary General should be prohibited from recalling the inspectors without the permission of the five permanent members of the Security Council.”

IMAD KHADDURI
Yesterday Vice President Dick Cheney claimed that Iraq has “reconstituted nuclear weapons.” Khadduri worked with the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission from 1968 until 1998. Now in Canada, he was recently interviewed by UNMOVIC. Khadduri asserts that Iraq has not had a nuclear weapons program since 1991 and accuses the administration of a pattern of deceit.

JOY GORDON
Gordon is a professor at Fairfield University and wrote “Cool War: Economic Sanctions as Weapons of Mass Destruction” which appeared in Harper’s magazine (Nov. 2002). She has acquired confidential U.N. documents, including minutes of closed meetings of the Security Council committee charged with overseeing the sanctions. While Bush and Blair cited Iraqi suffering as a reason for war yesterday, she documents that it is U.S. policy which has ensured the devastation in Iraq for the last decade.

Author of the report “Post-Saddam Iraq: Linchpin of a New Oil Order,” Renner is a senior researcher at Worldwatch Institute and a policy analyst for Foreign Policy In Focus. He contradicts administration officials who claim that oil is not a motivating factor in administration policy.

A member of Peaceful Tomorrows, an organization of family members of 9-11 victims seeking alternatives to violence, Campbell was arrested on Thursday at the Capitol. Other protests with other 9-11 family members are planned today.

NANCY LESSIN
A founding member of Military Families Speak Out, Lessin has a stepson deployed in the Persian Gulf. She was also arrested on Thursday at the Capitol. She is in touch with other military personnel who note that they are deprived of their First Amendment rights to express their views against Bush’s policies.

Clark is national coordinator of the Iraq Pledge of Resistance, which is organizing civil disobedience actions in D.C. and around the country.
